Charakku Curry Powder

In Yarlpanam, charakku curry is usually used for the convalescing patients and young mothers who feed their babies. The belief was the charakku paste made as below combined with fresh garlic paste has medicinal values and do not have undesired effect of chilli on invalids and nursing mothers. Also they believed that the combinations of the ingredients induced milk production in nursing mothers and kind on the digestive system of the invalids.

Ingredients:

Coriander Seeds 200 Gms - Cleaned washed and dried
Black pepper 25 Gms - Cleaned and dried
Turmeric powder ½ teaspoon
Cumin seeds 1 tablespoon - Cleaned and dried
Fenugreek seeds 3 teaspoons - washed and dried
Fennel seeds 1 tablespoon - Cleaned and dried
Mustard seeds 2 teaspoons - Cleaned and dried

Method:

Dry roast coriander seeds, fenugreek, Black pepper, mustard, cumin seeds and fennel seeds separately until they are golden and grind them together to a fine powder. Mix this with the turmeric powder and let it cool well.
