Fried sprats

Sprats are a very good source of calcium when eaten whole and fried sprats are easily chewed whole. In poorer countries this is the best and cheapest source of calcium for growing children.

Ingredients:

Sprats (fresh preferred) 300 Gms
Turmeric powder ½ teaspoons
Chilli powder 2 tablespoons
Salt to taste
Oil for frying

Method:

Wash sprats well in water and drain.

Add salt, chilli powder and turmeric powder and mix well. Do not add any water.

In a frying pan over low heat fry this in oil in small quantities until they become crispier.

Always cover the pan so when they split, oil will not splash over. When cooked and crispy, drain and remove.

Serve with: on its own as a snack or with rice dishes.

Vegetables with sprats

Sprats can be combined with some vegetables and cooked; this gives the curry a good flavour and nutrition. Usually Aubergines and drum stick are cooked.

Aubergines White curry: These are described under vegetable section. Just add sprats to aubergines and cook together.

Drum stick curry: Described in vegetables section and just add clean sprats to it and cook together.
